4 SPRINGTIME EVENTS CLOSE TO APARTMENTS IN NYC

Written by on 7.04.16

As Central Park’s cherry blossom trees bloom and the temperatures slowly climb, it can only mean one thing: it’s spring in New York City. These four events — all a hop, skip and a jump away from city-center NYC rentals — won’t break the bank and will serve as a preview of the city’s blockbuster spring schedule.

Japan Day

A stone’s throw from Regency Towers and Carlton Towers, Japan Day in Central Park celebrates Japanese culture in the core of middle-upper Manhattan. The day-long festival, held on Sunday, May 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes traditional and contemporary Japanese performances, food stalls and activity tents. The free celebration strives to improve cultural understanding between the people of Japan and the United States and is one of Central Park’s most visited events.

Murray Hill Neighborhood Association Street Festival

The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association Street Festival, an annual event organized by the Murray Hill Neighborhood Association, is a cornucopia of culinary treats, street stalls and live music. The annual event, which takes place on Saturday, June 4, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., includes a guided walking tour of celebrated Murray Hill, one of Midtown’s most historic neighborhoods, close to Dryden East and the Towne House. Other events include bake tables, a flea market and a raffle.

Washington Square Music Festival

Washington Square Music Festival takes place every Tuesday evening in June, showcasing some of the best jazz and classical music in the city. The four free concerts will entertain music lovers who crave contemporary and baroque sounds in the heart of Washington Square Park, a 9.75-acre green space in Lower Manhattan. The first concert, which kick-starts the festival on Tuesday, June 7, features the Festival Orchestra, which is conducted by Lutz Rath. Walking distance from 144 Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village and a short subway ride from Midtown East apartments, the Washington Square Music Festival has been a local must-see institution for 58 years.

Lenox Hill Neighborhood House First Avenue Street Fair

On Saturday, June 11, from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the Lennox Hill Neighborhood House First Avenue Street Fair will host street stalls and charity fundraising events. The fair will be held on First Avenue, between East 70th and East 79th Streets, close to the Wellesley apartments, and is organized by Lennox Hill Neighborhood House, a nonprofit organization that serves the local community. Volunteers will increase awareness about local community projects and charity drives and hand out freebies to attendees.
