OUR SPECIAL GUIDE TO MOTHER’S DAY 2016 FOR PEOPLE WITH APARTMENTS IN NYC

Written by on 2.05.16

If your mother is in NYC for Mother’s Day, there’s a number of enjoyable and appropriate places that will be a treat for both of you.

Mother’s Day in Greenwich Village and Chelsea

If you live in Greenwich Village and your mother loves cooking, the original Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker Street is hosting an icing class. You’ll get to take home a batch of flower cupcakes. For those in Chelsea, you may want to take your mother out for a night walk on the High Line.

Mother’s Day in Midtown East and Upper East Side

There are many places to take your mother to brunch. The hard part is picking only one. You can also ask your mother’s favorite places to shop or window shop. It’s easy to transition from shopping at a surround store to taking a walk in the neighborhood.

If you live in or close to Midtown East, at buildings such as The Towne House or Ambassador East, it’s not too far to the Theater District. Many new Broadway shows started in spring, including “Tuck Everlasting,” “Waitress” and “She Loves Me.”

For those who live on the Upper East Side, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be open. This will be the next-to-last weekend to catch an exhibit on Vigee Le Brun, a female French portraitist considered one of the most important of all female artists.

Farther down, in Battery Park City, there will be a free blues-rock concert at night. This is the opening event of the New York City Guitar Festival.

Spend Time Outside in NYC

If your mom likes flowers, you can choose between Mother’s Day Brunch at the Queens Botanical Garden and the Mother’s Day Weekend Garden Party at the New York Botanical Garden. Central Park is hosting Japan Day, with art and martial arts demonstrations as well as music, dance, and dramatic performances

Wherever you choose to take your mom, have fun during the time you have together. Tell her that you appreciate her visit and know that the best gift you can give her is a question: “Would you like to come again sometime soon?”
