Written by on 24.11.15

Uh oh. The fridge is empty and so is your stomach. What to do? Why not call a friend and take a chance on one of New York’s hot new eateries? For under $40, you can indulge in an exotic entree that will give you something to tell your mom about. The menus at the latest spots might even inspire your own cooking.

Vaucluse NYC

100 E 63rd St.

New to the Upper East Side is this farmhouse-style French brasserie. Operated by two celebrated chefs, Vaucluse seats its guests in the lush upper rooms and dining rooms. It also has a bar where you can sit with a curated cocktail, such as the house Julep. For lunch, you can practice your French over a White Label Burger with tomato jam and a side of frites. The confit chicken soup is another good choice. For dinner, consider the homemade artisan pastas or the entrecôte with hollandaise. And there’s no shortage of dessert, all made in the French tradition. The pomegranate apple sorbet and the chocolate mousse are particularly good.

Kat & Theo

5 W 21st St.

Wreaths aren’t just for the Christmas holiday. You can make fall wreaths that bring the outdoors into your Thanksgiving celebration. You will need to select a flexible material for the wreath base such as tree branches that are wiry or grapevines. Form the vines or branches into a circle and tie the ends together with craft wire. Using a hot glue gun, place on leaves, pine cones, fall flowers, small pumpkins, and berries to make the perfect wreath. Hang it on the door so that it faces into the apartment so you can enjoy it throughout the holidays.

Fuku+

5 W 56th St. Fl 1

Part of the David Chang restaurant chain, Fuku+ is a lounge-style diner located on the first floor of Midtown’s Chambers hotel that serves lunch and dinner throughout the week. Its colorful styling and simple menu keep the focus on the food. If you’re looking to treat yourself to spicy fried chicken with pickles after a day of work or shopping, there’s no better place. A bottle of Korean chili sauce will bring the heat and warm your soul as you balance on one of the high-top seats with an Orion beer or cup of tea. Forget calories and fuel up for a night out.

The city is always bustling with new restaurants. And while it isn’t always easy to find a seat in one, the chance to be a part of the latest food scenes might be worth some compromise. So hunker down and meet up with the in crowd for a mouth-watering meal.
