4 AWESOME EVENTS & FESTIVALS COMING TO PHILLY THIS SUMMER

Summertime in the city of Philadelphia not only brings warm weather but a wide range of outdoor events to experience. Here are a few of the featured festivals and happenings to check out this summer in Philly.

Spruce Street Harbor Park

This waterfront oasis transforms a stretch of boardwalk along the Delaware River into a summertime destination until October 1. Nighttimes are lit by colorful LED lighting hanging from the trees, where you can lounge in one of the many hammocks. Spruce Street Harbor Park features a floating restaurant, beer garden and games such as bocce.

The Oval Plus

From July 20 to August 20, the area around Benjamin Franklin Parkway and 24th Street transforms into a pop-up park and play space. The Oval+, open Wednesday to Sunday, features art installations, an immersive maze, miniature golf, ping-pong and life-sized versions of games such as chess. In between games, you can lounge in the outdoor beer garden or get a bit to eat from one of the food trucks. If you’re into fitness, come on a Wednesday for free yoga or kickboxing. For a more laid-back night, Fridays’ outdoor movie showings are for you.

2nd Street Festival in Northern Liberties

On Sunday, August 6, 2017, be one of the expected 20,000 people attending the all-day annual event, the 2nd Street Festival. This six-block street party stretches between Germantown Avenue and Spring Garden Street, celebrating all afternoon and into the night. North 2nd Street closes to traffic and opens to art, food trucks and a variety of vendors. The festival includes a dedicated space for street performers and three music and entertainment stages that will host local bands.

Made in America Music Festival

Labor Day weekend brings the two-day Made in America Music Festival to Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Superstar Jay Z headlines and invites more than 50 established and up-and-coming entertainers to perform on one of several stages September 2 and 3.
