Living in an apartment can severely restrict the free-range nature of your dog, particularly if you have a hard time finding a place you can remove the leash and let them run free. Fortunately, there are dog parks all around Philadelphia, both dog-friendly parks owned and run by the municipality and a number that are taken care of by local community members.

If you are looking for places to take your dog, the following is a list of dog-friendly parks in dog-friendly neighborhoods!

Roxborough Dog Park

One of, if not the, nicest public, dog-friendly parks in the city, Roxborough is located on 4117 Mitchell Street. The most appealing components of Roxborough are the green open space and the large size. There is a regular crowd of dog-friendly people who visit Roxborough and the atmosphere is amiable and easygoing.

Pastorius Park

With 16-acres of land for your dog to play in — a space that includes a large pond — Pastorius Park is an ideal dog park. Beautiful, green and tucked away down Hartwell Lane off Germantown Avenue, Pastorius Park is a beautiful little secret that even includes an amphitheater. Pastorius Park, if the pond were cleaner, would be Philadelphia’s paradigm dog-friendly park.

Schuylkill River Park

As fun for you as it will be for your dog, Schuylkill River Park is below a pedestrian overpass that is very popular with joggers, Sunday strollers and people looking for peace and quiet during their lunch hour. A very communal atmosphere makes Schuylkill Park fun for both you and your furry best friend.

Triangle Dog Park

Though not particularly large, Triangle Dog Park is well maintained and has a very friendly atmosphere. Located at 898 Aramingo Avenue, Triangle butts up against the Delaware, allows leash-free roaming and has grass and picnic tables.

Palmer Doggie Depot

Another park located on the shores of the Delaware River, Palmer Doggy Depot is very dog friendly. There are even communal dog bowls! It has lights for night-time visits and the cobblestone surface does wonders for your dog’s toe-nails. While there isn’t any green open-space, Palmer Doggie Depot is worth a visit.

Fairmount Park

If your dog is more excited about the outdoors than socializing with other dogs, Fairmount Park is ideal. It has both open space and wooded areas, isn’t particularly crowded and has lots of room for your dog to roam.

Though there are other dog parks in Philadelphia that are definitely worth checking out, these six are a great beginning to a city-wide, dog-friendly park tour. To learn more about the renting opportunities in Philadelphia visit our Philadelphia availabilities.
