Do you know what will happen if you walk into the city of Philadelphia and shout out, “Where is the best Philly cheesesteak place?” You’ll get a lot of people knowing that you recently moved into the area and a half-dozen arguments on who serves up this delectable meaty goodness slathered in cheese and served on a crusty roll (onions and green peppers are optional) the best. Philadelphia is world renowned on serving the best cheesesteaks in America, and any other restaurant in the country is just serving a poor imitation on what you can get here in the City of Brotherly Love.
Let’s get a few things straight about these cheesesteaks. This isn’t “frou-frou” food served at an overpriced restaurant where the portions are so tiny you have to eat it with a microscope while the bill is so high you could have paid your kid through college. An original Philly cheesesteak consists of chopped beef, usually ribeye, charred to smoky perfection and topped with the miraculous, tangy, gooey cheese sauce known as Cheese Wiz. Of course, every restaurant has to experiment with their recipes to stand out from the rest. So you will find places that slice their beef very thin instead of chopping it. Or they may offer American cheese, provolone, or their own house special cheese sauce. They may also serve it on different types of crusty rolls and buns.

Head to South Philadephia and you will smell the delicious cheesesteak in the air as it drifts from John’s Roast Pork at 14 Snyder Avenue. Served up on a seed roll, this cheesesteak will send your taste buds crying for more. Opened since 1930, way before Cheese Wiz was even offered to the masses, their cheesesteak is served with provolone cheese that is added to the meat and the bun so you can’t miss it with every bite.
You might have heard of this place if you are a fan of Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. He is a fan of Dalessandro’s Steaks and Hoagies as their cheesesteaks are a “must try” on your bucket list. Make your way to the northwestern part of Philadelphia to 600 Wendover Street in the small Roxborough area and you will find grill masters chopping up the most tastiest beef. They serve up their cheesesteaks on a soft roll with Cheese Wiz as you will stay there until closing hours.
If you are exploring the city along South Street a few blocks from the Starr Garden Park, you may soon find yourself standing in line with a bunch of other people. Don’t lose your place! Stay where you are as you will soon find yourself at Jim’s Steaks at 400 South Street. Mosey up to the counter and order one of the most juiciest, no-frills cheesesteaks in the region. The wait will be worth it to enjoy the chopped beef served on a toasted bun with your choice of cheese, onions and other fixings.
