Live like a local, become a local, or make like a tourist. There’s so much to do when you’re in Philly for Thanksgiving! When you step out of your home in your downtown Philadelphia apartment, you have plenty of options.
You don’t have to sit at home and watch a Thanksgiving Day parade. You can head down to Market Street and get a front row seat for the festivities. Bundle up so you stay warm and watch iconic floats pass by. You get to see the oldest Thanksgiving Day parade in the country, so you have to check it out at least once.
Philadelphia food markets like the Reading Terminal Market are the perfect place to get fresh and flavorful ingredients for your feast. Head to Jefferson Station, and you’ll see this massive market right in front of you. Get a smoked whole turkey from Godshall’s Poultry, go to the Pennsylvania General Store for cranberry compote, and stop by the Fair Food Farmstand for produce.
Don’t forget about dessert. Philadelphia has many good qualities, and one of the best is getting your hands on Pennsylvania Dutch baked goods. Whether you want a pumpkin pie or whoopie pies, you’re going to love their selection.
Not in the mood to cook for Thanksgiving, or you’d rather avoid the cleanup afterward? Philly is filled with restaurants that are more than happy to help you out. Stroll through the downtown area and take in the inviting scents from locally owned restaurants.
Some of the Thanksgiving Day highlights include a marvelous sit-down dinner at Bank and Bourbon, a family-style feast at Historic District, an Italian four-course meal at Scarpetta, and a stunning buffet at The Radnor Hotel.
