With its lion and goat statues and majestic trees, Rittenhouse Square is a verdant oasis in Philadelphia’s historical core. The urban park, which was built in 1683, is one of the City of Brotherly Love’s most visited attractions and lies just footsteps away from Rittenhouse Square apartments. Hungry locals flock to the restaurants, cafes and trattorias that surround the plaza for mid-morning pancakes, buttery melt sandwiches and hot coffee. Here are three popular brunch spots you need to check out.

Lacroix Restaurant

Presided over by executive chef Jon Cichon, Lacroix Restaurant — located at 210 West Rittenhouse Square — serves local ingredients in a luxurious setting. The eatery, part of The Rittenhouse, a city-center Philadelphia hotel with 116 rooms, has a Sunday brunch menu that lures tourists and locals alike. Hand-carved meat and fish dishes, including roasted lamb loin and Scottish salmon with a lemongrass and tarragon glaze, are served from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. Other brunch options include applewood-smoked bacon and Belgian waffles with fresh mixed berries. Lacroix provides panoramic views of Rittenhouse Square and is very close to the prestigious Philly apartments at 2131 Walnut Street.

Day by Day

With its wooden tables and large chalkboard — which displays daily specials and must-have extras — Day by Day serves eggs, sandwiches and salads until mid-afternoon in an informal environment. Located at 2101 Sansom Street, close to Papermill Lofts, the restaurant’s menu features staples such as eggs Benedict with a creamy hollandaise sauce and buttermilk pancakes with fresh fruit. Sides include roasted rosemary potatoes, cream cheese bagels and house-baked biscuits. The restaurant is closed on Mondays.

Parc Restaurant, Bistro & Cafe

Parc Restaurant, Bistro & Cafe blends Parisian luxury with local ingredients. The French-inspired bistro serves hearty cuisine seven days a week. You can sit down at a table outside and order from a diverse menu that offers brunch options such as French toast with caramelized brandied apples and cream and buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup. Alternatively, take your pick from appetizers such as beet salad with goat cheese, apple and pecans or a selection of breakfast pastries. Parc Restaurant, Bistro & Cafe stands proudly on 227 S. 18th Street on the eastern side of Rittenhouse Square, close to Center City apartments in Philly.
